HUNTINGTON HILLS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

Huntington Hills Community Association (HHCA) is a welcoming, innovative organization, built and sustained by the community, to meet recreation and service needs today and tomorrow in a helpful and caring way. Huntington Hills Community Association (HHCA) builds community and enhances quality of life through the provision of accessible programs to residents of all ages in Huntington Hills and surrounding communities.

overview

Huntington Hills is a residential neighbourhood in the north-west and north-east quadrant of Calgary. It has close proximity to Deerfoot Trail and Nose Creek Park. The land was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1961 and Huntington Hills was established in 1967 when substantial development began to occur.

Due to its elevation, the area offers excellent views of the city and Rocky Mountains. It’s also connected to the city’s pathway system. Huntington Hills is tanked in the top 10 in playground, recreation facilities, school and library categories while also being home to 15 schools, a vast outdoor playground and of course the Huntington Hills Community Association.

The Huntington Hills Community Association encourages people to purchase a membership as it is a great way to support your community. The facility has seen a number of loyal and dedicated volunteers come through the building and truly believe that volunteers are the hear and soul of our community.

In 2016 the existing hall was renovated and turned into a mid-sized gymnasium with a renewal of the existing surrounding areas as well as an addition to the side of a front entrance/welcome area. This $2.2 million project now serves existing users and groups at HHCA and will continue to attract others. Funding came from the City and Provincial levels.

community profile

In 1970 a group of Huntington Hills’ residents started a mixed curling league, playing at the Big Four Building. This league fluctuated in size over the years, from the original 10 teams to a high of 32 in 1975.

When the Huntington Hills Community Association began formulating plans for a sports complex, it was their decision that eight sheets of curling ice should be incorporated into the plans. This would add to the adult usage of the facility, providing added recreational facilities for the area.

On February 14, 1980 the Huntington Hills Curling Club was incorporated under the Societies Act, to provide an organizational vehicle for the promotion of curling in the Huntington Hills area.

Today we have a member of over 600 curlers participating in eight leagues. We offer a junior program. Little Rock program, and adult learn to curl clinics.

Each year brings improvements and successes to the club.
